Education Opportunities 11-18yrs
A wide range of education programmes and fieldwork opportunities are available within the Geopark. There are over 50 sites contained within the Geopark, many of which make excellent ‘outdoor classrooms’ and are regularly used by pre-school, primary, secondary, tertiary and life-long learning students.
We aim to provide hands on learning experiences that will further students knowledge and understanding in the subject areas of geology, biodiversity, tourism and science. Within the Geopark, the main focal areas for the delivery of education programmes and initiatives are Marble Arch Caves, Marble Arch National Nature Reserve, Cuilcagh Mountain Park and Cavan Burren Park.
The following programmes are available for 11-18yr olds:
- Geology & Geography
- Leisure & Tourism
- Science/Environmental Science
A Field Guide to the Geodiversity of the Marble Arch Caves UNESCO Global Geopark has been developed for use by post-primary teachers.
An Earth Science Education Field Guide is available for AS/A2 Level Geology and Leaving Certificate Geography teachers. This is a self-led study guide with information on sites to visit and the features of interest within them. This field guide also contains basic geological information for those teachers with limited experience of teaching Earth Science. Please contact the Geopark Development Officer on +44(0)2866348855 for more information.
All available programmes can be tailored to meet the needs of the school/students, and in certain instances can be run in conjunction with each other. Bespoke programmes can be offered where groups have specific requirements so please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss this further. Students receive a workbook to accompany their fieldwork and teachers can avail of additional teaching resources if required.
