Castle Archdale Forest – Maintenance Works

Forest Service is starting an extensive thinning programme in Old Castle Archdale Forest week beginning Monday 24 May. The work will involve the felling and removal of selected trees to improve crop quality and maintain forest cover. It will also result in better timber quality and will improve biodiversity by reducing the density of trees in the forest. Works are expected to last until Monday 7 June.

Diversions will be applied to the Walking Routes along Tom’s Island and Old Castle Archdale Forest during the thinning programme. Visitors to the forest should follow all directional signage in place during the works. The old Castle car park will also be closed on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 May to facilitate works.

We apologise for any inconvenience during this time.

Stay up to date with diversions via and @macgeopark on social media.
